The annual autumn appearance of a ZCoB classic
While Halloween is filled with well-known national traditions, my favorite part of it all is the annual return of the Creamery’s Harvest Pumpkin gelato. It’s so creamy, so delicious, and so perfectly captures the spirit of Halloween—in the most delightful, comforting, and completely unscary, of culinary ways!
All the things that go into making the Creamery’s gelato so good happen here, too. It starts with milk from the herd at Calder Dairy in Carleton. The Creamery pasteurizes at the lowest possible temperature—145°F for 30 minutes—to protect the character of the milk. We blend in smooth pumpkin puree, spice it with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, and blend with a bit of the Creamery’s classic burnt-sugar syrup. Super tasty!
The Harvest Pumpkin gelato is great with most any pie or pound cake. It makes a deliciously decadent pumpkin milkshake (come get one today at the Creamery). Or build a great fall sundae—a Bakehouse Ginger Jump-Up cookie, a scoop of Harvest Pumpkin gelato, some whipped cream, and a ribbon of dark sorghum syrup! The Harvest Pumpkin Gelato is delicious as is, but my belief is that it tastes terrific with a bit of ground espresso sprinkled over top. Same for shaved dark chocolate. Or better still, try that super tasty Spicy Coffee Spice Rub or some freshly ground black pepper. If you really want to go all out, spread some of the Georgia Grinders Almond Butter or Hazelnut Butter we have at the Deli on a plate, add a scoop of the Harvest Pumpkin gelato on top. Eat up!
