SUMMARY:STEEP: Mizuba Tea Co. Matcha
DESCRIPTION:STEEP events are our opportunity to take a deep dive into just a few of the fantastic teas we offer. We’ll share the history of each tea\, its production style\, the terroir\, the harvest\, and all that makes it special. While we learn\, we’ll taste several different steepings to illuminate how the flavor can evolve. No matter your level of expertise you’re sure to learn something. You may even find a new favorite! In this edition of STEEP\, we’ll taste the variety of teas from one of our newest product lines: Mizuba Tea Co matcha. \nMizuba is woman-owned\, family-run company specializes in stone-milled\, traditionally produced matcha and loose leaf tea. Their relationships with Japanese tea producers are decades-long and built on respect for the craftsmanship that goes into growing these exceptional teas. The majority of Mizuba’s matcha is stone-milled (rather than jet-milled) because it imparts a depth and richness that can’t be found in any other matcha\, and it upholds traditional matcha production methods so the heritage of it isn’t lost under the pressures of demand. \nOur Deli Tea Specialist Jackson Konwinski will lead the conversation and tasting as we introduce some of our new favorites to you! \nYOUR $25 EVENT TICKET INCLUDES:\n\nA wealth of information and a morning of great conversation with Deli Tea Specialist Jackson Konwinski\nA guided tasting of Mizuba matcha tea and something delicious from Zingerman’s Bakehouse\nA 20% off coupon to use to shop our Specialty Foods grocery area or shop.zingermansdeli.com after the tasting\n\nLOGISTICS:\n\nPlease include any allergy or other dietary needs in the field provided\nIf you have any questions\, please email delievents@zingermans.com

SUMMARY:Meet The Maker: Acetaia del Cristo
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place virtually on Zoom!\nItalians refer to real balsamic vinegar as tradizionale\, in contrast to the industriale\, or industrial vinegar on supermarket shelves. Vinegar experts speak in hushed tones of the saga of the Tradizionale vinegars. The vinegar is aged for a minimum of 12 years in wooden barrels\, after which an exacting panel of judges sample to decide the fate of these vinegars. Aceto balsamico tradizionale has an incredibly rich flavor\, a deep\, dark amber color\, and an almost syrupy texture. \nThese vinegars are so precious (and expensive) that we keep them in a locked cabinet in our pantry section. You know we love to open bottles and taste things with you when you visit\, these are pretty much the only things we’re not able to open to sample. \nSo that makes us super excited to bring you a rare opportunity to taste a variety of these tradizionales. We have our hands on a limited number of tasting kits from Acetaia del Cristo and we’re offering you the chance to savor them with us AND to meet the makers behind these very exquisite products. \nThe magic of Zoom allows us to travel to Italy to spend some time with Acetaia del Cristo and to learn more about these vinegars. These tasting kits are not sold anywhere in the US\, but we have a limited quantity to provide to you for this special event. This event is far less expensive than a plane ticket to Italy\, but you’ll feel like you’re tasting this vinegar right inside the production facility. OK\, maybe not exactly that\, but about as close as you can get for $120. \n\n\nYOUR $15 TICKET INCLUDES:\n\nZoom meeting link\nAn afternoon of learning and great conversation with Deli Event Coordinator Tessie and our friends from Acetaia del Cristo\nA 20% off coupon to use at our online at shop.zingermansdeli.com after the tasting\nThe ability to tune in from anywhere!  You do not need to be in Ann Arbor to listen in to the conversation!\n\nYOUR $120 TICKET INCLUDES:\n\nA limited edition tasting kit with 3 flights of balsamic\, a ceramic tasting spoon\, a generous hunk of Parmigiano Reggiano\, and Zingerman’s Bakehouse Paesano bread. Each kit contains enough balsamic for 2-3 people to taste along but please note\, there is only 1 spoon per kit.\nAn afternoon of learning and great conversation with Deli Event Coordinator Tessie and our friends from Acetaia del Cristo\nA 20% off coupon to use at our online at shop.zingermansdeli.com after the tasting\nZoom meeting link\nKits can be shipped anywhere in the US!\n\nMULTIPLE WAYS TO GET YOUR TASTING KIT:\n\nPick up at the Deli (FREE)\nAnn Arbor Delivery ($12)\nShipped ($24) – SOLD OUT\n\nLOGISTICS:\n\nThe Zoom link will be mailed to you at least 2 days before the event\nYour tasting kits will be ready for pickup or delivery the day before the event.  If you chose shipping\, you will receive your order ahead of the event.  You will be emailed with more specific information\nIf you have any questions\, please email delievents@zingermans.com

SUMMARY:Meet the Maker: Oro di Milas Olive Oil
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place IN PERSON at Zingerman’s Delicatessen!\nWe’ve traveled the globe looking for handmade\, artisan foods and we’ve found another great one for you: Oro di Milas Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Turkey!  After years of living in the United States\, the dynamic duo of Emine and Mark Colin\, left a thriving endodontic practice and returned to Emine’s country of birth. Together the couple bought a property with withering olive trees and coaxed them back to life. Over a decade later they are producing a top-notch olive oil that we have fallen head over heels for. We are really excited that Emine and Mark are going to join us IN PERSON for a tasting featuring their estate oil. We’ll talk all things oil – the process of growing\, pressing\, and bottling – and for sure we will taste their oil\, with a couple of simple dishes designed to show off the complex flavors of this stellar oil! \nIn a recent email newsletter\, Ari detailed all the ways he enjoys this oil: \nThe oil is terrific on pretty much everything from salad to steak. It’s a perfect addition to any freshly cooked fish or seafood—add it when the fish is already cooked and on the plate en route to the table. As per Turkish tradition\, it’s especially great with vegetables\, and also\, I’ll add\, with lamb! I like it on toast with some great varietal honey—the Appalachian monofloral honeys I wrote about last month would be marvelous. Great on fruit as well. Gently sauté some heirloom apples or pears in the oil\, sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt (and if you like things sweeter\, add a small bit of sugar and/or some high-quality raisins). When you’re ready to serve\, drizzle on a little more of the Oro di Milas. This simple dish would be delicious for dessert atop some Creamery gelato\, as a palate cleanser\, served as a sweet side dish with a savory main course\, or added to a grilled cheese. \nPlease note: this menu will have gluten and dairy. Adjustments can be made for both. \nYOUR $30 EVENT TICKET INCLUDES:\n\nA wealth of information and an evening of great conversation with Deli Events Coordinator Tessie Ives-Wilson and Oro di Milas founders Emine and Mark Colin\nA guided tasting of Oro di Milas olive oil\, featured in 3-4 small plates and of the oil on it’s own with plenty of bread for dipping.\nA 20% off coupon to use to shop our Specialty Foods grocery area after the tasting\n\nLOGISTICS:\n\nPlease include any allergy or other dietary needs in the field provided\nIf you have any questions\, please email delievents@zingermans.com

SUMMARY:Meet The Maker: Vegetarian Dinner with Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co.
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place IN PERSON at Zingerman’s Greyline!\nJoin us for a special vegetarian dinner at Zingerman’s Greyline in celebration of the delicious cheeses from Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co.! Bob and Dean Giacomini started their farm on Tomales Bay in California in 1959 when they established a herd and started making milk to sell to the local creamery. Fast forward to the year 2000 when their 4 daughters returned to the area to transition the business into an artisan farmstead cheesemaking facility with a focus on sustainability\, technique and flavor. SUMMARY:Cheese Room Sessions: Pleasant Ridge Reserve Selection
DESCRIPTION:Cheese Room Sessions is a virtual event series of conversations hosted by Deli cheesemongers with special guest cheese makers and professionals who will talk about their delicious creations and ramble about life in the dairy business.  In this month’s session\, join Deli mongers Connor and Trevor as they talk with Andy Hatch\, owner and head cheesemaker at Uplands Cheese\, a grassland dairy located in the driftless region of southwestern Wisconsin and maker of the signature Pleasant Ridge Reserve cheese. \nIn this virtual tasting event\, you will learn a bit more about the dairy and cheesemaking and also HELP US MAKE OUR SELECTION of Pleasant Ridge Reserve from last year’s wheels!  Andy\, Trevor (also an Uplands cheese alum!) and Connor will guide you through 6 different batches of cheese and you’ll provide us with some valuable feedback that will help us choose which batch we want to buy and sell over for the next year. \nWe have a very special relationship with this cheesemaker\, and this annual spring event with Andy to select the wheels that will represent Zingerman’s Pleasant Ridge profile is something we look forward to each year. We started years ago and made a big leap in our cheese buying to acquire one whole day’s worth of Uplands production–about 50 wheels.  We are currently able to buy almost 250 wheels\, or roughly four day’s worth of Upland efforts. \nThis cheese has won more awards than any other cheese in American history!  It is made in the tradition of Alpine cheeses like Gruyere\, and like other European Alpage cheeses\, Uplands only makes Pleasant Ridge from May through October\, when their cows are eating fresh pasture.  We hope you will join us and take part in this our annual tradition. \nYOUR $15 EVENT TICKET INCLUDES:\n\nZoom meeting link\nAn evening of conversation and learning with Andy\, Trevor and Connor.  Ask them anything!\nA 20% off coupon to use at our online at shop.zingermansdeli.com after the tasting\n\nYOUR $35 EVENT TICKET INCLUDES:\n\nZoom meeting link\nA tasting kit for one with 6 different samples of Pleasant Ridge Reserve cheese–6 batches from 2022 in their youthful stage (one of which will become Zingerman’s chosen cheese for the next year!) and accompaniments (additional tasting kits can be purchased for $20 each)\nAn evening of conversation and learning with Andy\, Trevor and Connor.  Ask them anything!\nA 20% off coupon to use at our online at zcob.me/deligrocery after the tasting\n\nMULTIPLE WAYS TO GET YOUR TASTING KIT:\n\nPick up at the Deli (FREE)\nAnn Arbor Delivery ($13)\nShipping to anywhere in the US ($40) – please order by 4/16 \n\nLOGISTICS:\n\nThe Zoom link will be mailed to you at least 2 days before the event\nYour tasting kits will be ready for pickup or delivery the day before the event.  You will be emailed with more specific information.\nShipped tasting kits will arrive no later than the day of the event.\nIf you have any questions\, please email delievents@zingermans.com
