July-August 2008

We're featuring some of our all-time favorites at the Deli just to convince any doubters out there that American cheese is as good as any in the world and no longer just means "flat, square, and yellow."

Crowley
A raw milk Colby. If that popular American classic had the history of an old European cheddar, it would be this cheese. From the oldest operating cheese making facility in the US, aged with help and expertise of the folks at Jasper Hill. So easy to eat. So good.

Chevre Noir
This raw goat's milk Cheddar come from Quebec. Intense, almost crunchy, tangy, with a bit of cararmel-ly sweetness. Each batch is specially selected just for us. Right now, we have a super special batch in house. Two and a half years old. A rare treat.

Pleasant Ridge Reserve
Mike Gingrich in Dodgeville, Wisconsin is devoted to making just one flawless cheese. He uses the best raw cow's milk. He only make these cheeses when it's warm out and the cows are eating fresh grass. Specially selected just for us, each wheel is spectacular.

Also highlighted this July at Zingerman's Delicatessen: Traditional cheeses hand-made in Ann Arbor at Zingerman's Creamery!

Bridgewater
Studded with freshly ground Telicherry black pepper, the Bridgewater combines a slight citrus flavor with the bold spice of fresh pepper, finishing with gentle hints of mushroom.
July Special! $7.99 each (reg $9.99) or 2 for $15!

Sharon Hollow
Fresh hand-ladled cheese layered with pepper or fresh herbs. Available in plain, Telicherry black pepper, or garlic and chive. Crisp, clean, milky flavor accented by the flavor of the herbs.
July Special! 2 for $10 (reg $5.99 ea.)

City Goats
Hand ladling gives this cheese an amazing, evolving texture, from light and airy when very fresh to firm and perfect for crumbling over salad when older. Fresh and crisp with a lemony tang.

Lincoln Log
This dense, log-shaped cheese is about four inches in diameter and is covered with a thin, white mold. It has a very rich texture with hints of citrus, a mild goat milk flavor and a touch of mushroom finish.

Manchester
Really rich double-cream (which means there is more cream added back to the milk) with a white (& a little red and blue) mold rind. Full flavor, really creamy, very good. Aged ideally for 4 weeks.
July Special! $9.99 each (reg $11.99)
