Join Newman vs. The World
— to benefit Peace Neighborhood Center!
Al Newman is a Zingerman's scholar and board member of the charitable foundation Peace Neighborhood Center. Al has been conducting a Tournament of Champions with the Zingerman's Delicatessen sandwich menu for over a decade. He has eaten his way through it numerically, ordering by number — often blindly, staggering into the wilderness of retired, sometimes barely remembered, sandwiches. As he progressed, he ranked sandwiches and had them 'play' each other, finally yielding his own personal Final Four.
Inspiration struck — what if the notion of a 'best' Zingerman's sandwich, Al's good works and a benefit for The Neighborhood Peace Center could all come together. We've decided to honor Al's Final Four (and they are #2 — Zingerman's Reuben, #18 Georgia Reuben, #67 — Jon and Amy's Double Dip and #102 Nathan's Double Play) but let the public-at-large in on the game too. Kicking off Feb. 15 and culminating in a final event on Mar. 13, you can come into the Deli and put down $1.00 for the Peace Center and vote for your favorite sandwich. What's in it for you? How about every vote being an entry in a drawing to win ZINGERMAN'S DELI SANDWICHES FOR LIFE! You heard right — Free Zingerman's Sandwiches for Life.
Choose the Best Zingerman's Sandwich Ever!
The top four vote getters will square off against Al's in an elite eight taste off — a $100.00 per person tasting tournament, March 13th 6-9pm in Zingerman's Delicatessen Big Top Tent (wanna learn more about the Raucous Caucus?). The event will feature local music and be served by a couple dozen 'menu celebrities' from Zing past and present. Attendees of the event will vote and the winner will be crowned the Best Zingerman's Sandwich.
So go ahead and stuff that ballot box with votes the way the Deli stuffs a Reuben with pastrami. 'Chicago Style' voting is encouraged and every cent of every dollar goes to Peace Neighborhood Center. Let the Obsessing and Arguing begin!
What is Peace Neighborhood Center?
For nearly four decades, Peace Neighborhood Center has piloted and maintained programs for children, families, and individuals to promote self-sufficiency and positive community involvement. We are proud to report that since 1971, we have provided critical services and opportunities to more than 12,500 people in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. Our services include: advocacy, emergency assistance, substance abuse recovery and prevention, after-school programs, summer day camp, college and career preparation, individual and family counseling, and employment assistance.
Providing these services can transform peoples' lives. Take Tacha for instance. As a second generation member of the Peace family, she has broken the cycle of poverty by graduating high school and attending classes at Washtenaw Community College. This coming semester she will go off to pursue her dream at Columbia School for the Performing Arts in Chicago. Peace Neighborhood Center is full of stories just like this. Your help can make more!
